The obverse design features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The effigy is encircled by the characters “QUEEN ELIZABETH II 2 DOLLARS TUVALU 2014”

The reverse design depicts a pair of gallant horses. Among the 12 earthly branches used cyclically in the Lunar Calendar, horse is corresponded to “WU”(午) which means noon - the brightest time in a day and the beginning of summer in a year. Horse is always characterized as passion, optimistic, positive and success in different cultures of the world. The gilded subject depiction, which is decorated with the background of green tree, pasture and farmhouse, symbolizes the strong galloping horses’ lofty sentiments for looking future, aspirations for brilliant prospects and relishes for success. The pair of gallant horses is gilded in 999.9 gold, increasing the brilliance and value of this coin. The outlines of Taiwan and Mount Yu, the highest mountain in Taiwan, are displayed and viewed within rhombic latent image when turning the coin slightly to the right and the left respectively.
