The main design is a colored map of Taiwan on which the red line from north to south represents the new Third National Expressway. The upper part of the coin is inscribed with Chinese characters that mean "The 93rd Year of the Republic of China," and along the lower edge, "In Commemoration of the Inauguration of the National Expressway Number Three."

A picture of Gao-Ping Stream Bridge on the Third National Expressway forms the main design. The upper right hand part of the coin is inscribed with "2004." The face value and purity of the silver coin are shown on the upper left hand part of the coin.

This commemorative silver coin has been issued to celebrate the official opening and inauguration of the Third National Expressway. This commemorative silver coin is legal tender and has a denomination of fifty New Taiwan dollars.
