The year 2016 corresponds to the Chinese lunar year Bing Shen, and the Chinese Zodiac year of the Monkey. Monkey King, in the epic Chinese novel "Journey to the West," is a heroic protagonist. The image of a nimble monkey picking peaches from the tree-top is inspired by an exploit of Monkey King, who famously stole Heaven's peaches in the novel. The Chinese word for earthly branch, "Shen," and the Chinese word for monkey, "hou," represent the auspicious meaning of promotion via aural punning. |

The image features the Lukang Lung-shan Temple, located in Lukang Township, Changhua County, Taiwan. Established between the end of the Ming Dynasty and the early part of the Qing Dynasty, it was reconstructed at its present location in 1786 AD, giving it more than two hundred years of history. Magnificent architecture and fine craftsmanship are characteristics of this temple. The site is classified as a historical monument of Taiwan. |
