The image shows the Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal, Sun Wukong, climbing high as though flying through the sky. The image is framed within the shape of a gourd. The Chinese character hu, of hulu, meaning ‘gourd’, is similar in pronunciation to that of fu, meaning ‘good fortune’, so that the image of a hulu is seen as emblematic of blessings. Together these illustrate the Chinese characters hong fu qi tian which translated mean, ‘one’s vast happiness reaches to the heavens’. This silver medal is especially valuable for being produced using hologram technology.
