The upper field is engraved with Chinese characters that mean "In Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Founding Father of the Republic of China." "The 104th Year of the Republic of China" in Chinese characters is engraved along the inside edge at the bottom. |

The upper field features two separate latent images. Rotating the face of the coin towards the right reveals the image of plum blossoms, and towards the left, the shape of the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei. Dr. Sun's own calligraphy of "The Great Commonwealth" is inscribed in Chinese characters in the middle of the field. |
