The obverse features a portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with the national flag of the Republic of China to its left, and the number of years since the birth of Dr. Sun to the right. The upper field is engraved with Chinese characters that mean "In Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Founding Father of the Republic of China." "The 104th Year of the Republic of China" in Chinese characters is engraved along the inside edge at the bottom.

The upper field features two separate latent images. Rotating the face of the coin towards the right reveals the image of plum blossoms, and towards the left, the shape of the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei. Dr. Sun's own calligraphy of "The Great Commonwealth" is inscribed in Chinese characters in the middle of the field.

In reverence and commemoration of Dr. Sun, the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is issuing "Commemorative Silver Coin for the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Founding Father of the Republic of China." This commemorative coin is issued as legal tender engraved with a face value in a limited edition.
