The goat is an auspicious animal in Chinese culture. The Chinese character for goat, yang, is similar in pronunciation to xiang, which means ‘auspicious’, so that the image of the goat is seen as emblematic of auspiciousness. The ancients used the two words interchangeably giving rise to the folk usage that “the auspicious goat brings in many blessings.” This silver medal is especially valuable for having been produced using hologram technology.
